Privacy Notice

Last updated: 20 October 2026

Wedall Data (“we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This notice explains how we process personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), both when you use this website and when you take part in our fieldwork, in person or on WhatsApp.

1. Who we are

Wedall Data is a trading name of Wedall (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2014/176689/07), an online business based in South Africa. We do not have a physical office; our face-to-face fieldwork takes place in Polokwane and surrounding areas of Limpopo. You can contact us by email at info@wedall.co.za.

2. Information we collect through this website

When you send an enquiry, we receive the details you choose to provide, such as your name, organisation, email address, phone number and project information. This website does not use a database: the enquiry form opens your own email app so that you can send your message to us by email.

3. Face-to-face survey respondents

Our face-to-face interviews are anonymous. Before each interview, we explain the purpose of the survey, ask for consent and record the answer (yes or no), and we proceed only if the respondent agrees. Respondents may stop at any time. We do not collect any contact details from face-to-face respondents, and we do not record names, phone numbers or ID numbers. To check the quality of our fieldwork, each interview is time-stamped; this does not identify the respondent. Photos of the interview set-up are taken only with the venue’s permission, and respondents are not identifiable in them.

4. WhatsApp polls and surveys

Taking part in our WhatsApp polls and surveys is voluntary. You join by choosing to start a survey from a link or QR code that we provide, and you can stop at any time.

While you take part, your phone number is necessarily processed by WhatsApp, and by any WhatsApp service provider we use to run the survey, so that messages can be delivered.

We do not keep respondents’ phone numbers in our records or in the survey datasets we produce, and we do not share phone numbers with anyone, including any client we work for. We keep only your survey responses, which are retained for 12 months and then deleted.

Your use of WhatsApp itself is governed by WhatsApp’s own terms of service and privacy policy, which are separate from this notice.

5. How we use personal information

6. Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We share de-identified (anonymous) survey data only with the client who commissions the research. Personal information may be shared with service providers who help us operate (for example, our email hosting provider), subject to appropriate confidentiality obligations, or where required by law.

7. Security and retention

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, damage and unauthorised access. We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by law. Survey response data is kept for 12 months and then deleted. Enquiry emails are kept only for as long as needed to respond to you and for our normal business records.

8. Your rights

Under POPIA, you may ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, and object to its processing. To make a request, contact the Information Officer, Wedall Data, at info@wedall.co.za. Because face-to-face responses are anonymous and we do not keep WhatsApp phone numbers, we may not be able to tell which survey response is yours.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal information, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa: inforegulator.org.za.

9. Changes to this notice

We may update this notice from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page.
